#1. GRANT MONEY IS AVAILABLE TO ANYONE JUST FOR THE ASKING.
Despite the hype that you hear and read, grants are intended for non profit organizations, faith-based or community organizations, schools, and select businesses (typically those with a research or technology component) We can not write a grant to pay off your debt, buy a home, start a business or put your children through school.
#2. MILLIONS OF GRANT DOLLARS ARE AVAILABLE TO SMALL BUSINESSES.
Despite claims to the contrary, the biggest sources of funding offer very few opportunities for individuals or for-profit businesses not related to high technology or research. The Small Business Administration clearly states on their website that they do not provide grants.
#3. YOU CAN APPLY FOR HUNDREDS OF GRANTS WITH A SINGLE APPLICATION.
Some grant writers submit the same proposal to hundreds of potential funders, a "shotgun" approach which merely wastes a client's time and money. Almost every funder has specific application guidelines which allow them to quickly detect - and dismiss - mass-produced submissions.
#4. WRITING FEES CAN BE PAID FROM THE GRANT.
Many inexperienced or unethical grant writers try to bill clients based on commission as paid from a grant award, an illegal practice that can jeopardize entire programs. With few exceptions, grant writing fees can not be paid from nor reimbursed from grant funds. Grant writing is a specialized professional service - which must be paid for at the time of service.
