At Lil’ Texans Learning Center we provide a well-rounded curriculum that accommodates for every aspect of child development. The exposure to an array of activities, resources, and environment lend optimal opportunity for age appropriate growth. We base our teaching strategies on learning through play and create lesson plans that facilitate emotional, social, physical, and academic discovery. We recognize that every child develops at his or her own pace and therefore individualize instruction to foster individual independence. We structure many activities for preschoolers to acquire feelings of empowerment and self-awareness.
Although we keep the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills in mind, we are setting our goal towards accreditation by The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and raising the bar for our quality of child care. We want to keep some of the activities that accompany the ABEKA curriculum, but we are moving towards merging those activities with the research based, The Creative Curriculum.
The Creative Curriculum is very intricately linked with many of the standards that we will need to meet in order to gain accreditation by NAEYC. The Creative Curriculum is a developmental curriculum that focuses on developmental domains in alignment with NAEYC. Some of the developmental domains include social and emotional development, cognitive development, motor skills, and language development, among others. It then looks at classroom arrangement, like areas of the room that are for literacy, blocks, dramatic play, and links them to the progression of development in each domain through continuous teacher observations. Observations and progress are noted on the Developmental Continuum which accompanies The Creative Curriculum and make it possible for teachers to streamline instruction to meet the specific needs of each child. Teachers also have the freedom using this curriculum to teach what they want according to the interests of their children and that which works best for their class as a whole. Additionally, NAEYC looks for the positive acknowledgement of diversity throughout private preschools and The Creative Curriculum encourages inclusion of all people and respects all multicultural practices.
In conjunction with The Creative Curriculum, teachers of three year olds and up have the option to incorporate the prewriting handwriting program called Handwriting Without Tears by Jan Olsen which enhances fine motor skills in writing and helps to satisfy the literary domain of The Creative Curriculum. Likewise, teachers may choose to enhance problem solving skills by using the I Can Problem Solve: An Interpersonal Cognitive Problem-Solving program by Myrna B. Shure which can help satisfy the social and emotional domains.
In summary, it is our mission here at Lil’ Texans Learning Center to establish the absolute best environment for young children that is safe, invigorating, nurturing, challenging, and developmentally appropriate. We recognize that The National Association for the Education of Young Children is the ultimate advocate for young children and bases its standards upon years of research and experts in the field of early childhood. As we strive to adhere to those standards through our nurturing and reassuring environment, we equip our students with the tools to leave this stage of life and be successful life-long learners.
NOTE: Additional extracurricular enrichment opportunities are available for your child’s interests like dance and All-Star Sports and Tumblebus (gymnastics on a bus) which enhance gross motor skills.
